Electrical Engineer

ViZn Energy Systems, located in Columbia Falls MT, has a need for engineering staff to design, modify, and specify key components for ViZn Energy Systems line of large-scale energy storage flow batteries.

Job Description

ViZn Energy Systems is looking for highly capable and enthusiastic candidates to join the team on the development of a new line of energy storage products.  This position is for an Electrical Engineer reporting to the Director of Engineering.  This person will assist with the design effort for the electrical and system power conversion systems to develop and commercialize new energy storage products by implementing designs for electrical systems. Close work with the team comprised of engineers, scientists, product management, and senior management will be required.  Level and compensation will be consistent with experience.  Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience in energy storage technology and are demonstrated successful multi-taskers.

Responsibilities and Primary Activities

  • Work under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Assist with system design for high and low voltage AC & DC design and implementation.
  • Assist with system ground design including peripheral equipment of inverters and transformers.
  • Design electrical components based upon reliability, durability and cost requirements.
  • Generate and maintain costed Bill of Materials to support overall system cost model.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation including schematics and specifications.
  • Create design requirements documents to support engineering and company goals.
  • Create test procedures to ensure product performance meets design requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure components meet requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Assist in build and test as required.
  • Create patent and other intellectual property disclosures.
  • Contribute to Next-Gen product team’s design effort.
  • Assist the design effort for rapid prototyping, upgrades and modifications of new and existing products.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience for a manufacturer of industrial equipment or relevant field doing similar work
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience with high voltage AC and system grounding
  • Must be able to work and reside in Montana
  • Proof of ability to work in the US

Preferred Experience

  • Energy system design including electrochemical storage systems.
  • Experience with design for DC above 600V.
  • Experience with inverters and transformers (high power grid-based designs).
  • Field experience with installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment.

Sr. Electrical Engineer

  • Technical lead for electrical engineering group consisting of engineers and technicians.
  • Manage outside contract engineering resources to support design projects.
  • Responsible for system high and low voltage AC & DC design and implementation.
  • Responsible for system ground design including peripheral equipment of inverters and transformers.
  • Understand and assist embedded control hardware design and implementation.
  • Design electrical components based upon reliability, durability and cost requirements.
  • Generate and maintain costed Bill of Materials to support overall system cost model.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation including drawings and specification sheets.
  • Create design requirements documents to support engineering and company goals.
  • Create test procedures to ensure product performance meets design requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure components meet requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Assist in build and test as required.
  • Create patent and other intellectual property disclosures.
  • Contribute to Next-Gen product team’s design effort by providing the necessary design boundaries from a design/electrical point of view

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience for a manufacturer of industrial equipment or relevant field doing similar work
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with high voltage AC and system grounding
  • Must be able to work and reside in Montana
  • Proof of ability to work in the US

Preferred Experience

  • Energy system design including electrochemical storage systems and/or fuel cells.
  • Experience leading a technical team of engineers and technicians
  • Electrical design of embedded control systems including custom PC board design.
  • Experience with design for DC above 600V.
  • Experience with inverters and transformers (high power grid-based designs).
  • Field experience with installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment.

Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities and Primary Activities

  • Design system components, sub-assemblies and assemblies based upon electrochemical, reliability, and cost requirements
  • Research and find primary and secondary sources of materials used in designs
  • Equipment design including metal structural components, fluid containment & delivery, and pumps.
  • System layouts including mechanical & electrical components & assemblies.
  • Generate and maintain costed Bill of Materials to support overall system cost model.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation including drawings and specification sheets.
  • Work with suppliers and fabricators to ensure components meet requirements and tolerances.
  • Determine tolerances and specifications for parts, components, sub-assemblies and assemblies required to meet product goals.
  • Perform routine structural and flow calculations and analysis.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of equipment design experience in a relevant field doing similar work
  • Must be able to work and reside in Montana
  • Proof of ability to work in the US

Preferred Experience

  • Equipment design for fluid delivery and control of corrosive chemicals.
  • Energy device design including electrochemical storage systems and/or fuel cells.
  • Basic understanding of electrical system requirements as it pertains to overall system layout.
  • Creating and/or working with P&ID documents.
  • 3D solid CAD software- ProE preferred
  • Design for high volume manufacturing including injection molding, casting, and progressive dies is a plus.
  • FEA analysis is a plus

Battery Mechanical Engineer

ViZn Energy Systems is looking for highly capable and enthusiastic candidates to join the team on the development of a new line of energy storage products.  This position is for a Battery Mechanical Engineer reporting to the Director of Engineering.  This person will assist with the production support effort to develop and commercialize new energy storage products by maintaining existing designs in manufacturing.  Close work with the team comprised of scientists, product management, fabrication and senior management will be required.  Level and compensation will be consistent with experience.  Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience in energy storage technology and are demonstrated successful multi-taskers.

Responsibilities and Primary Activities

  • Provide on-going design support for existing battery stack components and assemblies.
  • Responsible for cost reduction efforts for the battery stack and implementing these changes in production.
  • Research and find primary and secondary sources of materials used in designs
  • Generate and maintain costed Bill of Materials to support overall system cost model.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation including drawings and specification sheets.
  • Work with suppliers and fabricators to ensure components meet requirements and tolerances.
  • Determine tolerances and specifications for parts, components, sub-assemblies and assemblies required to meet product goals.

  • Proven design experience using 3D solid CAD software- ProE preferred
  • Experience managing engineering change and using an MRP system
  • Ability to work with suppliers and communicate design requirements
  • Must be able to work and reside in Montana
  • Proof of ability to work in the US

Preferred Experience

  • Experience designing parts for high volume including metal stampings and castings.
  • Experience with cost reduction projects
  • Ability to research alternate materials and processes
  • FEA analysis is a plus
